Recently I’ve tried PSPKVM, the PSP port of Sun’s open-source JavaME implementation phoneMEFeature and that little thing is amazing!
Having a Java virtual machine brings immediately so many new possibilities for the already vast PSP homebrew scene and I thought it would be incredibly wonderful if a PS2 port would exists!
Just imagine browsing the Internet with a PS2 and the Opera Mini of the Bolt browser, using a MSN Messenger clone, using Google Earth just for the kick, or playing those phone java games some people like.
The sad thing is that I personally have now the skills for doing it but simply don’t have the time for such a project… Maybe it could be more doable with some other devs collaboration. Is any interested and experienced dev reading this?
So, I was hoping to bring out a new release of PS2Doom with some features, but those who are waiting need to wait just a little bit more. Probably it will be out before the end of the year.
So, Merry Xmas for those who celebrate it!

Platform holder insists there’s life left yet in the age-old but still popular console
PS3 may at last be finding its feet in the international marketplace, but Sony insists that it will continue to wholeheartedly back its PS2 console throughout 2010.
“We have a very firm stance – we're going to continue to support the PS2 wholeheartedly,” SCEA’s head of PlayStation marketing John Koller told GamePro.
“The PS2 obviously had a price drop this year, which gets forgotten because of the PS3 noise, but it's still selling exceedingly well. It's a new demographic, a consumer that's maybe a ‘lost gamer’ or a consumer that's new to gaming.
“With this economy, coming in at $99, a lot of these consumers are choosing between a PlayStation 2 and a Wii, and you're looking at a PS2, which is $99 and carries 2000 games.
“It's been a very, very strong year with the PS2, and we're going on our tenth year. It's pretty unprecedented, and we're not looking to slow down anytime soon. Next year will be another year where the PS2's going to be fully supported. A lot of key games and titles are coming, both first and third-party. It's going to be another big year for the PlayStation 2.”

Jimmi and I proudly present version 0.5 of the PS2 remote debugger.
In this release, we significantly improved network transfer rates and game compatibility by optimizing/replacing code on the IOP side.
In detail, the changes are:
Code:
0.5 (Dec 8 2009)
- Replaced existing network modules with EEUG's SMSMAP.irx and SMSTCPIP.irx, and
optimized them for use in ps2rd (see below). This way, we almost doubled TCP
transfer rates to about 1MB/s.
- SMSMAP: try to force 100Mb/s full duplex mode.
- SMSTCPIP: modify lwIP TCP/IP stack to save as much IOP RAM as possible.
- Disabled netlog support and shrinked size of RPC buffer in debugger.irx.
- Reduced footprint of dev9.irx and added dev9x device driver to it.
- Do not use syscall 251 to store original vector of SifSetReg().
- Tweaked Makefiles (less verbose etc.)
- Added compiler flags to ntpbclient: -O2 -s -m32
- Fixed games:
Black
Castlevania: COD - Demo
Devil May Cry
ICO - Demo
Maximo VS AoZ - Demo
Silent Hill 4: The Room
Soul Calibur 2
Soul Calibur 3
TMNT - The Movie
Tomb Raider: Anniversary
Tomb Raider: Legend

Just for you all to know. Open PS2-Loader (Project) 0.5 has been released (the project was previously known as "Open USB-Loader Project"). It is the first released 100% OpenSource-Gameloader for the PS2 (that also means, it doesn´t use the 2 USBA-Modules anymore, which were used in earlier versions). It currently supports USB-Loading and a unique thing to this loader, loading of games from SMB/Windows-Shares/LAN for games installed in the USBA-Format.
Great news for USB Homebrew Loading:

Brazil, an emerging market for the videogames industry, has finally seen the official launch of Sony's PlayStation 2 in the country.
However, with a price point of BRL 799 (USD 462) it's not clear quite how much impact the console will be able to have on a market that's considered to have a high threat from piracy.
It's expected that games will cost BRL 119 (USD 69) for new releases and BRL 99 (USD 57) for catalogue titles, with 14 games available at launch - including Gran Turismo 4 and God of War II.
"Brazil is home to a large community of gaming enthusiasts, making the country an ideal opportunity for SCEA to introduce the PlayStation experience to a new legion of fans," read a company statement.

Sony has released a bundle of treats for stat fans to celebrate nine years of PlayStation 2.
Around 140 million people across the globe own a PS2. In the US alone more than 500 million games have been sold and there's a PS2 in one in three homes.
More than 485 developers have produced nearly 10,000 games for the console. SOCOM is one of the most popular franchises, with more than 530 million hours of online play logged - equivalent to 60,000 years.
Happy birthday, PS2. Here's to another nine years. Unlikely though.

News from pedroduarte0
More and more I start to feel the frustration of the time demanding task of doing homebrew which is unfortunately incompatible with my current life. This is intrinsic to C/C++ stuff, greatly amplified by the use of gcc based development tools with little debugging support. There were moments when I really wish for a RAD language + environment for the PS2… Nevertheless, it’s still more gratifying than doing everything quickly and with little effort.
About the ps2doom,
I managed to improve the audio quality of the sound for Doom2 WAD (although unnoticeable)
Discarted LIBSD requirement and adopted freesd-1.01 so older japanese models should able to play this and in theory, it should be more compatible with PS3 homebrew loading (don’t ask me anything about this, I don’t own a PS3 neither I’m interested in making it fully compatible, if it isn’t already)
Digital pad buttons are now usable
Added libconfig support (thanks misfire for the gift to the community) and this allowed me to add a simple way to make the controls completely reconfigurable without having to code boring GUI configs. The drawback is that you need to edit a config file or use a tool at PC side, this is not done at the PS2, sorry. This broke some things recently at the control system, nothing that a little debugging wouldn’t solve
So, after I finish the issue mentioned just above, it’s really for a new sparkling release.
I still have some plans regarding music (not to give details for now) and some other good stuff.
Although the sources are available through the assembla repository (see old post) I will sooner of later put everything into a google code project. I’d like to make the code compilable with current ps2sdk gsKit+SDL or with the minimal modifications first.
Wish me luck.

Gabest has released a new version of GSdx.
GSdx is a great GPU plugin for PCSX2 and PSone Emus. It supports DirectX 9 and DirectX 10.
To use it, you´ll need the newest Direct X Version, update it via the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer
All changes there are, as always in the extended text.
Quote:
Changelog:
r1846
Fixed GSDialog so that it doesn´t cause PCSX2 to minimize into the background when closing the config box.
PCSX2: Reloads plugins a little less often.
r1832
Yay, craploads of fixups for the new gui:
* Lots of crashfixes and threading rules compliance (like using wxYield instead of ProcessPendingEvents)
* Killed off some memory corruption
* Better error handling and reporting
* Much speedier suspend/resume during emulation
* Revamped entire savestate system to use a RIFF-style file format (untested, will work on it soon)
r1763
Reintegrated wxgui branch into trunk.
