ragnarok2040 posted some interesting news regarding work on the Snes Emulator for the PS2 recently:
I actually have some good news, .
I've been playing with some C++ code for the PS2 in order to research and solve the linking problem I had with snes9x-1.51. The last time I fiddled with snes9x-1.51's source, I couldn't compile the input code because of problems with using the <string> part of libstdc++ as well as istream/ostream objects which were resulting in a variety of problems.
After testing a few things out, I had a hunch that it was because ps2sdk's libc and newlib's libc having the same name. Which was resulting in either a precedence issue with ps2sdk's libc or ps2sdk's libc was the only libc being linked. The second option seems more likely since ee-g++ was complaining of missing symbols and newlib's libc was used to build libstdc++.
In the end, I renamed newlib's libc.a to libn.a, and made sure -lc preceded -ln in the linking order, and the problems seem to have gone away. That means I shouldn't have to rewrite a large portion of snes9x to get it working, .
TL;DR
Might have fixed a C++ linking problem, so I shouldn't have to rewrite a good sized part of Snes9x to get it working.
I still have the sources for the last alpha of snes9x-1.43, but I'm not sure I can reuse any of the code. It does make a good guide for doing the new port, though, since the elements haven't changed.
I just need to finish the GUI design doc. and implement it. There are quite a few more features planned, so the code will be more complex but using an object-oriented design will simplify the implementation a lot, especially being able to use the string object, .

ScummVM has been updated, heres what it is for those who dont know what it is:

ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the games, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed!
Some of the adventures ScummVM supports include Adventure Soft's Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2; Revolution's Beneath A Steel Sky and Broken Sword I & II; Flight of the Amazon Queen; Wyrmkeep's Inherit the Earth; Coktel Vision's Gobliiins; Westwood Studios' The Legend of Kyrandia and games based on LucasArts' SCUMM (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) system such as Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max and more. You can find a thorough list with details on which games are supported and how well on the compatibility page. ScummVM is continually improving, so check back often.
Its out for most consoles we cover which are:
Dreamcast
Nintendo DS
Apple Iphone/Ipod Touch
PSP
PS2
N64
S60/UIQ Phones
Heres the release news:
Another 4 months passed, a lot of hard work done... and finally it is here: ScummVM 1.1.0 is available now on our downloads page.
There are some pretty exciting new features: We added support for 16bit graphics, which allowed us to add support for a whole bunch of newer Humongous Entertainment games for kids. We also added or improved support for the Amiga versions of Monkey Island, Legend of Kyrandia and Future Wars. Plus there are two completely new engines for the games Dragon History (available for free from here) and TeenAgent (available for free from GOG.com). And finally there is now a port for the Nintendo 64 game console!
Take a look at the release notes if you want to know a bit more.
There is one grain of salt, though: If you want to play Nippon Safes Inc, we recommend that you stick with your current ScummVM version for now, as there are some nasty regressions in there which may even make it impossible to complete the game. Also the background music in Pajama Sam 1 isn't working correctly in the Kitchen and Mine areas anymore.
We are not happy about that, but in the end decided that we should not let this hold up the other new cool stuff we added. Instead, we will follow up this release in about four weeks with a 1.1.1 release that should fix these issues. In fact, you can help us make 1.1.1 even better by reporting any bugs you might encounter in 1.1.0.
Heres whats new in this release:
1.1.0 (2010-04-04)
New Games:
- Added support for Blue's Art Time Activities.
- Added support for Blue's Reading Time Activities.
- Added support for Freddi Fish 5: The Case of the Creature of Coral Cove.
- Added support for Pajama Sam: Games to Play on Any Day.
- Added support for SPY Fox 3: Operation Ozone.
- Added support for Dragon History.
- Added support for TeenAgent.
General:
- Added support for a custom SJIS font for FM-TOWNS and PC98 games.
- Added support for 16bit graphics. (GSoC Task)
- Removed QuickTime MIDI backend on Mac OS X; it was buggy and did not
compile on modern systems.
CinE:
- Added support for Amiga style menus for Amiga versions of Future Wars.
KYRA:
- Added support for the Amiga version of The Legend of Kyrandia.
(sound support was done as a GSoC Task)
- Adapted KYRA to support the custom SJIS font.
SCUMM:
- Added support for the PC-Engine version of Loom.
- Added support for music and sound effects in the the Amiga version of
The Secret of Monkey Island. (GSoC Task)
- Fixed some other bugs related to game versions for the Amiga.
- Added support for original save/load dialog in MM NES.
- Added support for savepoint passcodes for Sega CD MI1 via debugger command 'passcode'
- Added support for Kanji rendering in Japanese version of Monkey Island Sega CD.
Thanks to the ScummVM guys for one of the premier homebrew releases this year

News via http://ps2homebrewing.wordpress.com/...doom-v1-0-5-0/
Time for a new release, featuring:
Simple but effective WAD selector: No more need to having only a WAD per ps2doom!
Controller almost fully configurable using the configuration file (ps2doom.config)
HDD support (at last). Thanks Adilson Pierog for his contribution and for figuring out which irx were needed and its correct sequence order. I Just needed to integrate it better into the source and make the hardcoded paths configurable.
Now uses freesd instead of LIBSD. Japanese users should be happy now. And PS3 compatible now?
For doom2 wads, sound is no longer half sampled. Sounds the same to me, anyway…
For me, the major update was the use of a configuration file to make the controls configurable. That also opened the door to HDD support which needed some special treatment of WAD paths. I was hoping to release also easy to use configurator for Windows PC written in C# which would set the configuraton file but I forgot the lib I’m using (libconfig) did not have a C# wrapper. With proper free time I would do it by myself, but as you all saw, I was hoping to have this ready for January…
Those who are interested at using the HDD must read the ‘Whatsthis.txt’ file released along with the distribution below. It explains exactly what settings you must change at the config file and where to put it. Please pay attention to that, before asking any questions, thanks.
For the future, well this might be the last update I do for PS2Doom due to lack of time and things doesn’t seem to get better any soon, since I need to solve some personal issues more important than homebrew development.
I still have my own wish list for PS2doom, including cheat support and MP3 decoding during playback (that way not only we’ll have Doom music but literally any music we wanted) and who knows one day I’ll accomplish this? But besides this, I don’t see much future for PS2doom… I guess the next step would be dropping this version of ps2doom and start adapting PrBoom+, maybe chopping off some more performance hungry features of it. PrBoom+ would allow PWAD support and networking with Doom running on other platforms such as the PC, for example. For those who would take the task, my improvements for the starting Lukasz version would be reusable into PrBoom+ port (mc support, audio alternative to the still broken SDLaudio).
If there is any developer who wants to continue the project of start PrBoom+ port, please go ahead. Fell free to use my code as reference. I’ll soon put the souce as a google code project but in the meanwhile, get it from the assembla repository >here<.
Have fun!

Hey people.
While we're still working on the new PCSX2 version, we've also been constantly adding to the all important plugins.
Every now and then we release a beta plugin pack, so you can test them out and benefit from the new features a bit earlier
Head over to the beta downloads page here to grab the new March 2010 package.
SPU2-X 1.4:
Yet again improved sound quality by fixing a sample overflow in the ADPCM decoder.
Adjustable reverb volume, for deeper reverb effects.
Fixes to interrupts and status registers that allow many more games to boot.
Games fixed by this update include titles like Fatal Frame 2 and 3, Black, the Burnout series, Max Payne 2, Silent Hill 0rigins, Silent Hill Shattered Memories and, of course, "Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey"
GSdx 0.1.16:
Stability fixes (less exception crashes).
More games have post processing removed, making them playable.
Fixed a blending effect used in Final Fantasy 10, 10-2 and Grandia3.
Many more tweaks and additions.
LilyPad:
Several bug fixes that make it work better with the new PCSX2 version.

The latest Pcsx2 beta installer (RECOMMENDED) can be found here: Pcsx2 beta 1888 installer + plugins
The latest Pcsx2 beta can be found here: Pcsx2 beta 1888
The latest Pcsx2 beta plugins can be found here: Plugins as of 11th of March 2010
The latest compiled Pcsx2 beta for Linux can be found here: Pcsx2 beta 1736
This is the Pcsx2 official beta and beta plugins thread.
In this thread, betas of the emulator and of the plugins will be posted.
These files are betas, so there are no guarantees of them running games. We offer NO official support on any of this.
You can however use them to see the latest progress and the new bugs .. errr... features introduced You are all encouraged to try the latest beta available from this thread before posting a bug report. If it works in the latest beta, it's most likely fixed, and so no need to post a bug report.
Regarding the frequency of these betas, they will be put out when there's some reasonable amount of changes.
Most commits are not actually worth it, they add up in the long run but give no immediate benefits.
Installation instructions for the pcsx2 beta:
- Get the new installer, everything is included there
- install, then update directx as usual
- Play
Notes for the pcsx2 Linux beta:
Dependencies include gtk2, opengl, libbz2, libjpeg, glew-dev, libxxf86vm-dev, x11proto-xf86vidmodeautomake and autoconf (version >= 1.9) Nvidia Cg-Toolkit, libasound-dev, & joystick
I'm compiling with Glew 1.5.1, and I've seen issues before if you use a different Glew version then the one I compiled against. I also downgraded my copy of libjpeg to version 6 before compiling, because most distributions are not using 7.
I've included a binary of ZZogl at r166, as well as OnePad, GSnull, and PadNull. The latter three are all considered alpha quality.

Ten years ago today, the PlayStation 2 launched in Japan. That makes the PS2 ten years old.
After launching worldwide, the console has gone on to sell over 140 million units globally, making it the best selling home console. Ten years in, the console is still alive and kicking. There are still video games being released on it!
What better what to say "Happy birthday, PS2!", than by naming your favorite PS2 title. What are you waiting for? Get to it!

Bositman has posted some great news concerning the next version of PCSX2:
It has been a long time since the last news concerning PCSX2, so I thought I'd bring you up to date
Development of the new 0.9.7 version of the emulator with the all new GUI is going strong and soon all the old GUI functionality will be implemented. After that it's bug hunting time and then a beta release!
In this news post I'll present some of the exciting new features of the new GUI builds, for those of you who haven't checked it out yet!
Click the images to view them in normal size
All new menus, for improved usability and faster configuration
On the fly suspend and resume, perfectly stable, safe and fast
On the fly setting switching or even plugin switching
Compatible with Aero Glass and Windows eye goodies
Threaded GUI, for better responsiveness, usability and error handling
Simplified plugin configuration dialog, with more options
Console output will no longer slow down the emulator when flooded thanks to threading
Saving states done in the new thread, so gameplay doesn't even flinch when you save
New CPU configuration, more user friendly and noob proof with a restore defaults button
New GS configuration, with more options like Turbo and Slow motion FPS adjustments
New Speed hacks configuration, with more warnings ( like anyone reads them!) and a restore defaults button
All options have tooltips (text that appears after you leave the cursor on a control for some secs) explaining what each of them do
Screen shot button in every dialog (lower left corner) to easily take shots of your configurations
That's it! Hope you like the new look and functionality, we are doing our best to make PCSX2 as user friendly as possible. Of course there are still some features not shown here, we have to keep something to surprise you!
There is no set date for the beta release, since there are still a bunch of bugs lying around but it's safe to say we are getting close

February 2nd, 2010, 23:46 Posted By: wraggster
The long-rumored, recently leaked existence of PlayStation 2 games joining the "PS One Classics" line comes a bit closer to reality, at least in the mind of PlayStation senior VP Peter Dille who calls the digital re-issues a "terrific opportunity."
In an interview with IGN, Dille says that the PlayStation folks are "working really hard on" bringing more PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games to the PlayStation Store, not quite an official announcement, but another glimmer of hope.
"From our side, we're going through our own studio organization and trying to make sure all these old games are out there so that we can lead by example, but we're also communicating with all the third-parties about the success of the Final Fantasy games, and other PS1 and PS2 classics," Dille tells IGN. "By all means, I think people can look for more of that because once the third-parties see how this works, it's just found money. There's not a whole lot of work that has to go into it and once we can get it up on the network, it finds an audience pretty quickly."
With PS2 backward compatibility all but dead on the PlayStation 3 going forward, it would seem like some of that "found money" would be an attractive option for Sony. About as attractive as the rumored addition of Dreamcast games to the PS3 would be for me.
Maybe we'll hear something official closer to GDC or E3 this year.

Square Enix's role-playing game Final Fantasy XIII is a PlayStation 3 game (and an Xbox 360 game!). But at one time, the game was running on the PS2.
Early artwork and screens have been published in two new books from Square Enix, giving insight into the game's design process. These test version images pre-date E3 2006, when the game was announced, and thus, are logically running on the PS2.
The art direction is different than that which appeared in the final product, and the character models look to be stand-ins for the test version. The battle user-interface, however, doesn't look that different.

"Who said we are lost again in this lonely world?" That's the first line of the somewhat hokey but infectious theme song to Phantasy Star Universe. When the song was written, that was a rhetorical question, but now it's been answered: Sega says you're lost in this lonely world. At least, that's the message the publisher is sending the remaining players of the PS2 and PC versions, whose servers will be shut down soon.
Following the January 29 "Maximum Attack G+" event, Sega will convert everyone's account to a free account, and allow the players to enjoy what time they can before the servers shut off on March 31. This won't affect the Xbox 360 version in any way other than the flood of refugees from other platforms.
It may not be much of a flood, however: GM Edward@Sega said that the shutdown is taking place because "[t]he population is simply too low for us to be able to continue to support this platform."

DQ Translations would like to thank all the committed fans that have loved this series despite the unfair treatment it has received in the past. Just like you, we waited until, “Eh, maybe next year.” turned into, “Aw, come on!” After all that hoping, waiting, and even begging the Square Enix representatives on Slime Knights, it’s finally here.
Many of us have spent countless hours working on this project while juggling jobs and school. We hope that the effort we put in will help make this game a memorable experience for you! Don’t forget to stop by our forums to chat with other members about the translation or the series.

Hi there,
here's an updated version of ps2vice.
New features:
- update to vice 2.2
- all p00 and prg files should work fine now
- vic20 memory expansions
- files in file browser sorted alphabetically
snapshot feature:
- save snapshot to mc0:/, mc1:/, host:/ or mass:/ (in main menu -> save current state)
- load these snapshots using the autostart feature in the menu (saved files will appear in mc0:/ etc., named <gamename>.sav)
- quicksave/quickload to/from memory using L1/L2 (lost after reset of ps2)
Someone asked for palette selection, I don't think that's a necessary feature. Just copy <yourfavouritepalette>.vpl to default.vpl.
Have fun.

A new version of the Playstation 2 emulator PCSX2/Mac has been released.
Quote:
Release update
December 30th, 2009
It’s that time of the year again, so i had some time to work on pcsx2/mac This update is about solving the missing textures problem that has been plaguing pcsx2/mac for ages.
The new build is as always available here…
Zeydlitz has recently worked on z-buffer swizzling for the ZZOgl plugin and this has fixed a lot of missing textures problems for us. I also fixed some code in pcsx2 for ffx missing textures. Some shots:
0.9.6, Snow leopard and further plans…
October 23rd, 2009
First off, i’d like to mention that apparently 0.9.6 works on snow leopard with the stock x11, as confirmed The En Dash in forums, so you might try that out ignoring the xquartz installation step.
I’m aware of the issue with macbooks and pcsx2 and i’ll try to sort it out, but as i don’t have a macbook, but i need someone with a macbook(with leopard) who has enough experience building things on osx so that he can build pcsx2/mac from the repository and i could debug it through…
In other news, i’m soon updating the code to r1888 and starting on the new gui. There’s also work going on with the aligned stack so that it doesn’t require as many hacks to work, and i’ll hopefully be able to pull it from official repository soon.
0.9.6 - alpha release
October 18th, 2009
Ok, the time has come I’m releasing a stand-alone package for pcsx2/mac 0.9.6 which doesn’t require launching terminal whatsoever, hope that helps. The steps to install it are as follows:
* xQuartz
To run Pcsx2, you need X11 but not the one that comes with Leopard/Tiger. You can download the latest release of X11 from the XQuartz Project page. Double-click on the package to install it.
* NVidia CG framework
Download the package for Mac OS X here. Mount the disk image and double-click on the installer. Follow the instruction to install the Framework.
* PCSX2/mac + plugins
